This is a generic White entry in which plain White and White's are discussed (but not those for whom there are distinct entries: the three J Whiteentries and those for Luke White and Edward White) .
There are a series of entries to Ant/A. White who has been excluded from this coding and identified as Anthony White, a surgeon and pupil of Sir Anthony Carlisle, whom Godwin sees frequently at the end of his life. White was renowned for ability and indolence! Although White is not menioned as maried in the DNB, his will mentions a portrait of his 'late dear wife', which is said to have won George Dawe election to the Royal Academy. It seems likely that Anthony White has some relation to the James White of Isleworth and George White (see WHI01): 21.8.1833 'Dine at Ant. White’s, w. Geo. White and femme.' 5.10.1834 'dine at A Whites, w. 2 James and 2 Geo. Whites, and Feetham.' 30.11.1834 'dine at A White’s, w. frere and femme, G Whites, Chaffey, Maitland, and Peppercorn.' 18.3.1835 'Call on Ant. White, confined one week.' 26.7.1835 'sup at Ant. White’s, w. M J; adv. G White and femme, and Fincham

This George/G White seems to be related to James White of Isleworth and Anthony
White (above). For example, 5.10.1834, is typical: 'dine at A Whites,
w. 2 James and 2 Geo. Whites...' At the moment, nothing is known about this family,
other than the link to Isleworth and the notice of James White's death in The Times.
Major White seems to be Henry White who has a distinguished Indian service, moving from Major through to Sir Henry White. These have been coded only when there is a prefix, except in very rare cases where Godwin seems to be writing something for White.
There is also an H White who appears ~15 times, quite spread out, assoc with Tooke, unidentified. There are also several W L White entries (see 1807, 1808) which have not been coded.
Beyond all these initialled entries, there is the problem of what to do about plain White, who appears ~170 times, right through the diary. In the 1790s he is associated with Holcroft, Robinson et al but especially George Dyson, so this suggests he will be hard to identify. From about 1800 there are lots in conjunction with Lamb, a few at St Paul's Churchyard around 1809-10, still in the 1810s a fair few connected to Lamb. Then in the 1820s there are some connected to the Isleworth Whites. It is tempting, therefore, to fold these into the James Whites of which there are 2 - or possibly three!: - James White, friend of Lamb, who dies in 1820. - James White of Isleworth, whose 1835 death is noticed in The Times. - James White who might be the same as 'of Isleworth' but who seemes to be consistently distinguished from him. Some plain Whites seem almost certain to be one or other of these, when the context is Lamb or Isleworth. However, this is by no means the case with all of them. It seems unlike Godwin to so carefully distinguish J/Jas Whites and then use plain White interchangeably.
Dr White - Joseph White - has been identified with Oxford visits.
St Clair suggests an 1802 'White. FTC' may refer to a 'Fellow of Trinity College'
