There are a considerable number of entries to A Walker. These are not the same as the one reference to Adam Walker. They are more likely to refer to another Walker, mentioned in St Clair: 'for years Godwin gave help to a man called Alexander Walker who often called at his house for meals and - presumably - for money. Whether the court case in which he was involved in May 1800 was for crime or for debt the result was destitution.' (p. 303). One of the 1801 entries is to 'Liberate Walker' 'In 1821 the jounal notes calls by Wake and by Walker, men who had appealed to him for money before going into prison either for debt or for crime. They had presumably served their sentences and been released' (pp. 449-50). This is slightly puzzling because, although Wake appears in 1821, Walker does not do so until 1824 Nonetheless, the substance of the claim seems right.
