Madame Angelica Catalani was a renowned opera singer who made her first appearance in London in 1806, when Robert Dighton published a portrait of her in Semiramide (National Portrait Gallery). She retired from the stage in 1831. Godwin mentions her name cryptically in 1810 - perhaps as a topic of conversation; perhaps as an adv meeting. He records meeting her in 1822, probably with Mrs Yaniewicz, and he writes to her in 1824.
