Booth was responsible for seeing many of the publications of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge through the press. He also wrote a number of texts himself including A letter to Rev. T. R. Malthus, being an answer to his criticism of Mr. Godwin's work on population in 1823. Although Booth did not move to London until 1823, according to the DNB, the diary indicates that he visited London on a number of occasions judging by the brief but intense periods of contact in the 1810s. Booth had a correspondence with Godwin dating from 1799.

Booth married Isabel Baxter whose friendship with the Godwin family is well documented. Mary Shelley went to live with the family of Richard Baxter, Godwin's friend, in 1812 and became good friends with his daughter Isabel.

Booth had been married to Isabel's sister and had married Isabel after her death. Locke (291) points to this being 'in defiance of both his church and the law'. Booth prevented any contact betwen Isabel and Mary and Shelley, even after the Shelley's marriage. Locke describes him as 'by all accounts a husband bad-tempered to the point of cruelty.'

There are some references to Booth in the 1790s which are not David or the actor Junius Booth. These have been left uncoded.
