Charles James Fox (1749–1806) reached an understanding with William Wyndham Grenville after the death of William Pitt and they formed a government which became known – somewhat sarcastically – as the ‘ministry of all the talents’. Fox was foreign secretary, Wyndham was Prime Minister. Canning and Pitt's followers, however, refused to join. George III had previously been hostile to Fox, so his inclusion was surprising to many.
