Godwin first records Woodcock and three brothers at his mother's funeral in Norfolk. There then follows a sequence of letters from Godwin to Woodcock in the autumn of 1809 and the beginning of 1810 (until May). In 1811 there are letters in August and September. Godwin does not note any replies. The likelihood is that Woodcock is an acquaintance from Godwin's youth in Norfolk. These letters do not appear in Godwin's extant papers. It seems likely that Godwin was involved in settling the family's financial affairs, possibly through Woodcock, who seems to have been entirely based in Norfolk.
