Anthony White, a surgeon and pupil of Sir Anthony Carlisle, whom Godwin sees frequently at the end of his life. White was renowned for ability and indolence! The identification is tentative. Although White is not menioned as married in the DNB, his will mentions a portrait of his 'late dear wife', which is said to have won George Dawe election to the Royal Academy.

It is possible that Godwin met Anthony White and sought consultation with him respecting Mary Jane. There seems some indiation of this rom the pattern of early entries.

It is possible that Anthony White has some relation to the James White of Isleworth and George White (see WHI01): 21.8.1833 'Dine at Ant. White’s, w. Geo. White and femme.' 5.10.1834 'dine at A Whites, w. 2 James and 2 Geo. Whites, and Feetham.' 30.11.1834 'dine at A White’s, w. frere and femme, G Whites, Chaffey, Maitland, and Peppercorn.' 18.3.1835 'Call on Ant. White, confined one week.' 26.7.1835 'sup at Ant. White’s, w. M J; adv. G White and femme, and Fincham. However, Anthony White's brothers were named Robert, Christopher and Jordison.
