In a letter to Godwin sent from Ireland, dated 2 May 1797, Skeys apologises for his silence explaining that he has been afflicted by a number of family sorrows. It refers to works that Godwin sent him. It also refers to Mrs Bishop and her leaving Dublin. It seems likely that this is the widow of Fanny Blood, Wollstonecraft's old friend. There is no evidence that Godwin had met Skeys before this letter, and it is possible that Wollstonecraft may have put them in touch. However, Skeys does then come to England and is in company with Godwin (and Fanny) in 1799, and then in Ireland in 1800. There is an A Skeys in the Diary in 1797, who calls on Godwin in the November after Wollstonecraft's death but this has not been coded.
