There are three entries to 'Restiff' in the first three months of 1793. They are odd as it is rare for Godwin to confer two consonants at the end of a person's name and, in this case, only one is called for. It is certainly possible that Retif was in London at this time although there is no evidence to support this. He was the author of Les nuits de Paris, ou Le Spectateur nocturne (1788-1794, 8 volumes).
