Godwin records his death.
There are a number of entries to Reeves in the diary after 1800 but these do not seem to refer
to the same person. John Reeves was principally famous for establishing the Association for
Preserving Liberty and Property against Republicans and Levellers at the Crown and Anchor
tavern in the Strand, installing himself as chairman and encouraging correspondence from throughout
the kingdom in an effort to turn the tide against reform.
He was also tried for sedition having written an ultra-royalist tract on 1795. There is nothing in the
entries to Reeves that suggest it is John Reeves and, there is evidence, from the diary, in the form of Godwin's
references to Miss and Mrs Reeves (when John Reeves remained unmarried) that there must be another Reeves
current. The two entries in 1800 are clearly to plural members of the same family.
Accordingly, only the reference to his death has been coded.
