1811

30  August  1811

  • Name: Fermor, Earl Thomas William (Pomfret)
  • Gender: Male
  • Birth Date: 22  November  1770
  • Death Date: 29  June  1833
  • Occupation: Soldier, Privy Councillor

Godwin met him once, in August 1811, spending an evening (I have passed few pleasanter days of my life) in Bognor, talking to Pomfret, the local librarian (Binstead), a General Sturt and a Captain Montgomery - the latter not being named in the diary, where Godwin simply writes 'Bonapartian.' Given Pomfret's later campaigns in the Peninsular War it must have been an interesting evening.
