Godwin writes to Lord Pelham (Home Secretary) in November 1801 (folowing the October truce with France but prior to the formal signing of the Peace of Amiens in March 1802) asking for a passport to travel to Paris. There is a reply from Mr Flint on behalf of Lord Pelham on 02.11.1801 saying that it is not possible at present to issue him a passport (MS. Abinger c. 7, fol. 73: 2 Nov. 1801).
