Godwin sees a good deal of Thomas Love Peacock the novelist and satirist between 1813 and 1827. He first appears with Shelley and crops up a lot at Marlow. St Clair suggests Peacock offered to marry Jane Clairmont to save her from having to return to the Godwin's home after she, Mary and Shelley return from the elopement (p. 375). Peacock also attempted to act as a go-between for Shelley and Godwin during their estrangement.
