Paine entries are largely occasions on which Godwin enters 'Talk of Paine'. Godwin was very keen to meet Paine, and comes tantalisingly close to doing so in the spring of 1791. It is possible to read the entry for 5 November 1791, 'Talk at P. n's of Mirabeau and immortality' as indicating an acquaintance with Paine, but Godwin writes to Paine two days later, referring to having been unable to introduce himself at the Revolutionists dinner on 4 November, and expressing the hope that they might become acquainted. They do so at Johnson's, when Wollstonecraft is also famously present on 13 November. It seems more likely that the 'P.n's' is a reference to Petion's.
