On a tour to Scotland on 7 April 1816 ‘[Godwin] even sat for a portrait by William Nicholson – not his old scientist friend, whose obituary he had written the previous year, but a local artist.’ (Marshall, 321). An engraving of this portrait was later used in Sir George Mackenzie’s 1820 Illustrations of Phrenology (Marshall, p. 352). In 1816, there's one reference to 'Nicholson's' - but he also 'sits' on the 20th April, the 22nd April. This same year, Godwin also sat for a portrait by George Henry Harlowe (DNB, Harlowe), being introduced by James Northcote.
