Godwin begins by misspelling his name - early entries being to Joice. This stops in 1794 and Joyce takes over. However, there is a relapse to Joice in 1799 (at Tooke's) and 1801. The Tooke entry seems very likely to be to Jeremiah Joyce (because we know they’re connected – ‘Joyce himself became involved with such radical figures as Thomas Hardy and John Horne Tooke of the London Corresponding Society’ (DNB) - (see also the mentions of ‘Joyce’ in Gentleman Radical). Joyce’s biographer Issit points out that they 'dined together, took their families to eat and spend afternoons and evenings together and regularly went to visit friends and publishers’, John Issit, Jeremiah Joyce p. 73). The couple of Joyces that appear after 1816 have not been coded. There is an E Joyce in 1806 (also excluded).
