A staunch dissenter, educated at Wakefield, outspoken in his defence of protestant dissenting rights, and an associate of leading Whigs.. Godwin's contact is not extensive. He meets him at Hollis in 1789, with Price and Priestley; with the Anti-Tests in 1790; at Brand Hollis's in 1793 and 1799; at the Westminster Forum in 1798; twise at Nicholson's, 1802 and 1805; once at Curran's; and once at the Theatre. The first Nicholson contact is spelt Haywoods and may relate to another person, but that it the sole entry in the diary and there is a subsequent contact at Nicholson's with Heywood.
