  • Birth Date: 26  January  1786
  • Death Date: 22  June  1846

Haydon was was noted for his very large paintings of historical subjects. He had his first exhibit at the Royal Academy in 1809 but subsequently fell out with the organization. He moved in literary circles counting Wordsworth, Keats, Lamb, and Hazlitt among his friends. In later life he was a lobbyist for the arts, a pamphleteer, and a lecturer.

Marshall lists Haydon as one of those who contributed to a subscription for Godwin in the early 1820s which is confirmed by Taylor's Life of Benjamin Robert Haydon, II. pp. 36-7. The DNB suggests he was moving in the kind of fashionable circles in the 1830s, confirmed by his meeting with Leicester Stanhope in 1835.
