There are numerous 'Harwood' entries in the diary. According to Thomas Holcroft'sLife his eldest daughter (who would be Ann by his first marriage, married Colonel Harwood in the 1790s (the diary records Harwood married on 3.4.1796 but the register of St Mary Woolnoth, London, record a marriage between Ann Holcroft and William Tooke Harwood on 25 June 1797). The DNB suggests that she was born around 1765, so she would have been around 30 on her marriage. The index to Holcroft's Life has Colonel Wm Harwood, and identifies him as a nephew of William Tooke, Horne Tooke's friend. This suggests that there are at least three different Harwoods - Colonel William Harwood, his wife Anne, and a third Harwood picked out by the diary: T Harwood. There is also one entry for E and M Harwood.
Godwin notes in the 1796 Diary that he meets 'Harwood' for the first time in 1793. We have treated Harwood as Colonel Wiliam Harwood, and A Harwood (who frequently appears at Holcroft's) as his wife, nee Holcroft. Colonel Harwood's parents were Thomas Harwood and Elizabeth (née Tooke). He seems to have been born in Norwich and his mother died in April 1797 - as is mentioned in a letter to Godwin from his mother (Abinger MS. c. 3, fol., 64)). T. Harwood is a distinct person, but there are too few entries to justify a code name. (There is some suggestion that T Harwood comes from Norwich, which is where Godwin first notes meeting him)
Colonel Harwood seems to have had a natural daughter whom he acknowledged in his will as Mary Elizabeth, the wife of Charles Phillips, a surgeoon of Camden Town, whom she had married as St Marlebone on 18 September 1813.
Godwin notes Col. Harwood's death on 2.4.1824.
