Henry Fuseli was an eminent painter in London. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and was a friend and competitor of Sir Joshua Reynolds. Mary Wollstonecraft was infatuated with him at one point and asked whether she could cohabit with him and his wife.
Godwin first met Fuseli and his close friend John Bonnycastle at one of Joseph Johnson's dinners on 9 August 1796. The two embarked on a sometimes strained acquaintanceship, but also a long-lived and consistent one with Fuseli mentioned over 200 times in the diary, mostly occurring 1796-1810, and mostly meeting at Johnson's.
Godwin recorded his death.
