It is difficult to be wholly certain about the identification - the DNB does confirm that Pierre Condé was in London at the time (all 19 contacts 1802-5) and the context is often artistic (eg. calls in conjunction with Northcote). However, this is also a period in which Godwin meets the Abbé Carron who has links to Prince and Princess Condé, relatives of Louis Philippe II d'Orléans, known during the revolution as Philippe Egalité. The circumstantial evidence, however, points to the artist.
