Zerah Colburn was an American child genius who toured Britain, Ireland, and France in 1812 at the age of 8. He solved complex mathematical problems in public. He also attended Westminster school for a time thanks to the generosity of the Earl of Bristol before embarking on an unsuccessful stage career. Godwin calls on him with Francis Place on 14 December 1812.
