Calonne was appointed Controller-General of Finances for France in 1783 but was subsequently blamed for France's enormous fiscal problems and dismissed. He then moved to England in 1787.
Besides his death, Godwin recorded two meetings, both in 1794. Calonne lived in London for much of the 1790s - a note in the Garden History Society for 1799 refers to Calonne buying Wimbledon House and gardens from Bond Hopkins in 1791.
