  • Name: Burke, Edmund
  • Gender: Male
  • Death Date: 9  July  1797
  • Occupation: politician
  • Occupation: author

For Godwin, Burke was one of the most significant political figures of the period. Godwin admired him greatly, read him widely, and it is thought that the figure of Falkland in Caleb Williams is at least partly modelled on Burke, whom he never met, but whom he saw in action in Parliament.

Godwin recorded his death but a day out, entering it on the 8 July.
