Billington began her theatrical career in Smock Alley theatre, Dublin in 1784. She subsequently moved to London where her personal life became the topic of much gossip, instigating a tour of Italy where she was very successful. She returned to the London stage in 1801 where she had a triumphant decade before retiring in 1811.
