Unknown. Howver, he is referred to in several newspapar articles for 1830, the year he appears in the diary, associated with the Duke of WEellington's visit to Manchester following the opening of the Manchester-Liverpool railway. Count Bathiani features in several reports of the event and of the subsequent dinner in the Duke's honour. It is likely that he is, in fact, Gusztáv, 5th Prince Batthyány-Strattmann, who was a Hungarian nobleman who bred horses in England where he was commonly known as Count Batthyány.
