Wolstencraft's Comedy (2 June 1796) Unable
to identify.
In
Memoirs of the author of a Vindication
of the rights of woman (
1798),
WG writes, ‘In January
1796, she [Mary
Wollstonecraft] finished the sketch of a comedy....' It ‘remained
among her papers at the period of her decease; but it appeared to me
to be in so crude and imperfect a state, that I judged it most
respectful to her memory to commit it to the flames'
(
Collected novels and memoirs of William Godwin,
Volume 1 [London: Pickering and Chatto,
1992], chapter 8, page 127).
